What is Rankyl?

Rankyl is a free online course that teaches SEO, AEO and GEO from beginner to expert: 53 guides in 9 modules, a glossary, free tools and a final exam. There is no signup, paywall or advertising.

What is the difference between SEO, AEO and GEO?

SEO (search engine optimization) earns rankings in classic results. AEO (answer engine optimization) earns the direct answer: featured snippets, People Also Ask and voice answers. GEO (generative engine optimization) earns citations in AI answers such as Google AI Overviews, AI Mode, ChatGPT and Perplexity. They build on the same foundations, which is why the course teaches them together. Start with GEO.

Do I need to know how to code?

No. Most guides need no code at all. Technical guides include copy-paste examples, and the technical SEO for developers learning path goes deeper for those who want it.

How long does the course take?

Most guides take 5 to 10 minutes to read. Working through every module takes most people a few weeks at a guide or two a day, and your progress saves in your browser as you go.

Is there a certificate?

Yes. Pass the 30-question final exam with 80% or more to get a free certificate of completion you can print or add to LinkedIn. It is a certificate of completion, not an accredited qualification.

Is the content up to date for 2026?

Every guide shows its last review date and sources, and changes are logged in the changelog. The latest refresh covers AI Overviews, AI Mode, AI crawlers and every confirmed Google update since January 2025.
